Snowing in the Alps

Snowing in the Alps
Teresa Fisher

It’s snowing in the Alps…

What better timing, just as the London Ski & Snowboard Show ends and we look forward to the winter season ahead.

The snowfall has been heaviest in the eastern Alps over the weekend, with some resorts boasting up to 50cm of fresh snow.

More is forecast for the Alps, especially in the west, over the next few days (until milder weather moves in on Wednesday), with possibly as much a half a metre in France over the next couple of days, as low as 1,200m at times.

Austria has the most ski areas open at the moment, with all eight glacier ski areas reporting powder conditions.  As well as the glacier resorts currently open across the Alps, a further handful of resorts will be opening in November so these snowfalls are vital for early season bookings.  Cervinia has opened from today, and Obergurgl in Austria will be one of the first resorts to open on November 14.  We are skiing there early December and will be reporting live from the resort.

In the meantime, here are some images from resorts around the Alps, taken from various webcams and Facebook today and over the weekend:
